Questions to develop a Knowledge Matrix

Which Knowledge Avatar?

Here are the questions to ask yourself when developing a Knowledge Matrix.

What is the central concept? This is the top level. For example, "Set" is the main concept for the knowledge domain called sets. Next, define the concept. For example, the definition for set is: "A set is any collection of objects, clearly described or identified. Sets have subsets. They can be described with Venn diagrams. You can have the intersect of sets or union of sets." Look for words in the definition that need to be defined. These are prerequisites. In the case of sets they are collection, objects, identified, Venn diagrams, the intersection of sets, and union of sets. Now, for each of these sub-concepts, repeat from step two. At each level ask yourself, "Can we assume that the student should already have mastered these sub-concepts? If so, you can stop this process.
